Trustables: the tasty healthy sugar-free PB&J

In her March appearance on Daytime TV, Dr LJ Rose shows how to prepare a Trustable, the healthy sugar-free delicious PB&J sandwich.

Trustables

Ingredients:
  • Package of frozen or fresh strawberries or berries of your choice
  • Sweetener of choice (honey, palm sugar, cane sugar, stevia, maple syrup, xylitol or agave)
  • Gluten-free or sprouted wheat bread, almond butter (preferably raw)
  • Chia seeds (available at health food stores or online)

Directions:

Defrost a cup of frozen strawberries or use fresh strawberries. Puree in a blender or food processor with 3 tablespoons of water and sweetener of your choice. Place in a dish and stir in 3 tablespoons of chia seeds. Stir well and let set a few minutes while you prepare the rest; The consistency should be like jam or jelly (this may take 10-20 minutes – add more chia as needed.

Buy whole grain bread, preferably gluten free and sprouted. Spread raw almond butter on one side with a knife and put some of the strawberry “jelly” over the almond butter or on the other slice of bread. Place one piece over the other. Optional: Trim away the crusts. Press all along the four sides to seal the sides. Extra sandwiches can be frozen and taken out to defrost for an easy lunch or put into lunch boxes.
